The charts below give information about the electricity generation in the two countries in 2009
The given pie charts compare the proportional rate of electricity produced(in KWH) from different resources: conventional, renewable, and nuclear in Germany and France in the year 2009.
Looking from the overall perspective, it is readily apparent that Germany was ahead of France in the total production of electricity during the given period. The former country used conventional thermal as the major resource, while the latter fulfilled the maximum proportion from the nuclear resource. Although biomass was more popular in Germany in the renewable sector, France was using more nuclear energy.
According to the given illustration, out of the total 560 billion kWh of electricity produced in Germany, 59.6% was generated from conventional resources, higher by multiple of 6 than France. On the contrary, France, whose total production was less by 50 billion KWH, generated nearly three-fourth of power from nuclear resources, just one-third(23%) produced in Germany.
On the other hand, Germany accounted for 17.4% of renewable resources, higher by 3.7% from France. About 39.3% of the biomass was used in Germany, nearly five times higher than France. In contrast, more than three-fourths of the energy was contributed from hydroelectric in France as compared to just 17.7% in Germany. In addition, Germany used nearly three times more wind energy than in France(10.5%). Also, solar energy accounted for 6.1% in Germany and only 0.9% in France. However, both countries were not dependent on geothermal energy at all.
