Essay topics:

The charts below show how average middle-income families spend their household budget in two different years. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Two charts illustrate the budget allocation of average middle-income families in 2012 and 2015. In 2012, the budget was split roughly evenly between housing, food and clothes, pastime activities and miscellaneous needs. In contrast, in 2015  half of the money was spent on housing alone.
During the first period, 60% of the budget was spent on the paramount needs: accommodation and food/clothes  (35% and one quarter respectively). 25% of the money was used for spare time’s sake and holidays. The rest (15%) was spent on different needs.
On the other hand, in 2015 housing demanded 50% of the family’s money, while food and clothes required 35%. For free time activities, families spent only 10% of their funds. The remaining was spend on other needs.
Overall, there was a significant redistribution in middle-class families’ money spending. For instance, the amount of money needed for accommodation rose by 15% between 2012 and 2015, whilst food and clothes started to require 10% more of the budget. Thus, other demands needed to be cut.
