The pie charts compare the expenditure on 5 different categories: Housing, Clothing, Entertainment, Food, Travel/Sport and Luxury goods in a particular European nation between 1958 and 2008.
Overall, there was an increase in the spending on Housing, Food and Luxury goods while those for Clothing, Entertainment and Travel/Sport decreased.
In 1958, 22% of people’s spending on Housing. The expenditure on Housing increased to 32%, which accounted for the largest proportion of the total expense in 2008. Only 8% and 7% of the expense on Food and Luxury goods respectively. These figures reached at 17% in 2008.
The largest percentage of the total expense was represented by Clothing in 1958 with 32%. However, it dropped dramatically by 20% in 2008. While the expenditure on Entertainment decreased slightly by 2% over the period of 50 years, the spending on Transport/ Travel in 2008 was a half of that in 1958, 13% compared to 6%.
