Essay topics:

The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.

The pie charts compare the percentages of British students at one university who were bilingual or trilingual in two years, 2000 and 2010.
Overall, the proportion of students speaking Spanish was reckoned to be the highest in both two years. Moreover, there was an upward trend in almost all figures for the multilingual.
As can be seen from the charts, in 2000, students using Spanish accounted for an overwhelming percentage, at 30%. This figure is twice as much as the proportions of students who can use French and another language. Compared to German, the figure for two other languages is equal, comprising 10%. The second most popular was the proportion of students who can speak English only, constituting 20%.
Besides, in 2010, there was a mere 5% growth in the percentage of British students using Spanish, another language and two other languages to 35%, 20% and 15% respectively. In contrast, the figure for no other language halved to 10% whereas a slight decline from 15% to 10% in the proportion of students speaking French was observed. The figure for German remained stable at 10% in two years.
