The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.
The two pie charts compare the percentages of students who were capable of other languages besides English in British in the year 2000 and 2010.
Overall, students speaking only Spanish language occupied the largest part in both years. There were dramatic increases in the number of students who could speak Spanish and one or two other languages while no other and French witnessed sharply drop.
Looking at the information in more details, we can see that 30% of students were able to communicate in Spanish in 2000, this figure grew by 5% in 2010. In 2000, German only and two other languages stood at the lowest points, both with 10%. Similarly, 15% was the figures for French only and another language and one fifth of students who did not use any other language except English.
In 2010, the smallest parts belonged to no other language, German and French, at one in ten. There were significant growth in the three remaining sectors, the number of people who can speak another language increased by a third, from 15% in 2000 to 20% in 2010. As well as that, students communicating in two other languages rose sharply to 15% in 2010.
