The given line graph illustrates the proportions of population by age group in Japan in the period of 80 years, starting in 1960.
It is obvious that, while the rate of 0-14 and 15-64 saw a downwand trend in the first 40 years in the century, this figure for the 65+ age group witnessed the opposite.
To begin with 1960, most of Japan’s population fell within 0-14 age group, which made up more than 65 percent. From 1970s onward to 2030, there is a substantial decrease in the percentage of people who are in the 0-14 age bracket by 14 percent and hit its lowest point in the past 70 years, but it is expected to have a slow growth of 2 percent in 2040. Next to this number of 25-64 age group, there is a slight highs and lows during the 40-year period, starting in 1960, at which point a gradual drop was witnessed in the proportion of Japan’s population in this group to more than 10 percent according to the forecast.
Besides, In spite of occupying 8 percent in 1960, next 50 years saw an ascending trend to 33 percent of Japan’s population and even was predicted to reach a peak of approximately 40 percent so that it will turn Japan into an aged population country.
