Comparison of car theft

The chart compares the number of vehicles got stolen per thousand vehicles in four big nations over a period of 10 years from 1990.

It is clear from the graph that Britain by far had the highest rate of car thefts. Additionally, Sweden experienced the most dramatic change during the research period.

In 1990, only 6 cars were stolen out of 1000 cars in France, whereas the rate of car thefts recorded in Canada were slightly higher, at 7 vehicles per 1000 vehicles. Meanwhile, Britain had the highest rate of cars stolen, at 18 vehicles, compared to just only 8 cars were stolen in Sweden. By 1996, the figure for Britain had a risen by 2 cars to 20 cars. In the same year, while the number of car thefts in France witnessed a 1 vehicles increase, to 7 vehicles, the figure for Canada declined slightly to roughly 5 cars. However, the most significant change was witnessed in Sweden, where the number of car thefts jumped from 8 to 13 vehicles.

In the year 1999, Britain and France both experienced declines in their figures, to 16 vehicles and 6 vehicles respectively. By contrast, Sweden's figure remained stable at 12 cars during 1996 to 1998 but rose slightly to 14 cars in 1999. Moreover, there were 6 out of 1000 cars were stolen in Canada in 1999.
