Overall, the energy is converting from water potential to electricity. In this power plant renewable convert both ways flow of water from up to downward and reverse method. At day time water flows from high to low and night time the flow opposite, with help of pump.
The diagram shows that the river water was collected in a human made dam and the water flow from base of water reservoir in day light between a pipe which was connected to turbine that takes water energy and convert into mechanical energy after that the water have been stored in low level water storage area. At nighttime, the turbine works as pump to left water in dam. However, the generator convert mechanical energy into electricity which delivered in national grid with help of power lines.
To sum this, the whole system also work to store energy.
