Overall, the process includes several stages that starts with the flow of river water into a reservoir and ends with the transmission of electricity to the national grid. It is worth noting that the production is separated into day and night stages.
The day process involves channeling water from the river into a high-level reservoir standing against a dam. There is an intake area leading to the generator which opens during the day and closes at night. The water then moves through a pipe into the turbines to generate electricity. After that, the generated electricity is sent to the national grid through power lines, while an amount of water is transferred into a low-level reservoir.
During the night process, water contained in the low-level reservoir is pumped back into another reservoir by the turbines in the generator. Next, this flow of water moves through the same pipe but in a reversible direction compared to the day stage. The river water is stored at the upper level and when it flows down, the cycle is started again.
