Ocean thermal energy conversion process uses the temperature difference between deep sea water and warm surface water to generate electricity. The sea water passes through different stages which results in electricity and drinking water is the by product of this process.
The warm sea water at the surface level which is at about 29 degree Celsius is converted into water vapor by solar energy and as it moves forward it gets separated into salt less vapor and salty warm water. This salt less vapor enters evacuated evaporation chamber and rotates the turbine connected to this chamber resulting in generation of electricity.
The remaining salt less water vapor enters into condensing chamber. The deep sea level cold water which is at 5 degree Celsius along with the salty warm water produced in the first stage helps in cooling the incoming water vapor. The drinking water is produced in this stage by the condensation of water vapor.
The salt water which is left after condensation stage is released into the sea and the whole cycle starts all over again.
