Due to human's evolution, skeletal structure are vary one from another. While pre-modern human beings have a thin-long-looked body, Australopithecus appeared much more wider.
Australopithecus afarensis was depicted with big skull, broad chest and long big hands. Compared with the predecessors, Homo erectus had slim body to support his smaller head.
Each distinguish features belonged to these different ancestors had its own functions. To easy Australopithecus afarensis climbed the trees, they had been evolving its hands longer than their kinds. Nature selections also had affected Homo erectus. As we can see, their long legs with short toes were naturally created to allow their running speedy. On the other hand, long toes with partial foot arch structure had been useful as stabilizers for Australopithecus.
In conclusion, different time periods had shown how evolution of human's body's parts were evolved somehow so they could perform certain behavior. It is all helpful to understand how human beings were adapting in the past.
