One of the most conspicuous trends of today’s worlds is a colossal upsurge in assessing students purely based on written examination. There is a widespread worry that this will lead to a plethora of problems in student’s life. In my opinion, this apprehension is warranted and merits serious consideration.
There are a myriad of arguments in favor of my stance. The most preponderant one is that these stereotyped exams do not require in-depth knowledge. Not only can students, be it mediocre or prodigy, excel in these traditional exams by memorizing the subjects, but they also fail to instill knowledge required at this stage of their life, thus failing to broaden their horizons. Needless to say, all these demerits have a far-reaching impact on the academic performance of students.
Another pivotal aspect of this argument is that questions in these exams are often repeated or similar set of questions are readily available in the internet, thanks to the ubiquity of technology and so many students can access and memorize the prepared scripts and achieve good marks. Besides, the ability of the students in written examination is also hindered, from discovering new limits to testing them practically. Hence, it is apparent why many are not in favor of conventional exams.
In view of the arguments outlined above, one can conclude that the drawbacks of a formal written exam in gauging student’s ability are too dire to ignore.
