The first pie chart demonstrates energy consumption by an average Australian family, while the second chart represents greenhouse gas emissions caused by this energy use.

As it is shown in the first pie chart, the vast majority of energy appliance is heating (42%) which outnumbers water heating by slightly above 10%. Other appliances account for nearly the sixth of the total power. On the contrary, cooling and lighting requires the less amount of electricity and indicates 2 and 4 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, water heating is the leading reason of the greenhouse gas emissions. Other appliances are on the second place and the percentage is almost twice greater than that in energy consumption. Despite the fact that heating is the main power consumer, it makes up 15%, which is just over refrigeration (14%). The contribution of cooling and lighting to dangerous gas emission is relatively low, however it is marginally higher than its fraction in electricity demand.

To sum up, water heating and other appliances can lead to deterioration of environment, notwithstanding they consume less energy than heating.
