The first chart illustrates the average energy usage per Australian family. The second chart gives information about the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that stem from this power use.
Overall, the majority of energy was used for heating and water heating. Most of the gas emissions resulted from water heating.
Looking into the first chart, the percentage of energy consumed in heating was the largest, with 42% which is six times higher than the figure for refrigeration, at only 7%. The proportion of energy use for water heating was 30%, making it become the second most popular category among the six groups. Lighting and cooling accounted for the least amount of energy, with only 6% in total. Approximately 15% of the energy was consumed in other appliances.
Moving to the next chart, over one-third of the amount of gas was released by water heating. The proportion of gas resulted from refrigeration and heating were nearly the same, at around 15%. Cooling and lighting released the lowest gas emissions, with 3% and 8%, respectively. The percentage of greenhouse gas discharged by other household equipments was 28%.
