The bar chart illustrates the using of various means of transport to travel to and from work in one Europe city in 1960, 1980 and 2000.
Overall, transports took more human energy such as foot and bike were used more in the past then they were gradually replaced by automatic vehicles over period of years. Bus was relatively steady chosen by users while the figures of car, bike and foot were more strongly fluctuated by years.
Bus was pretty familiar to travelers with about 18% of them used it in 1960, this number significantly rose up to over 25% in 1980 then suddenly fell back to almost 15% in 2000. Car was rarely known in 1960 with only about 5% travelers drove it to and from work, however this figure impressively increased to almost 23% in 1980 then continued to grow and reach the peak of approximately 35% in 2000, this ratio made car the most popular vehicle in surveyed city.
Bike was chosen by a certain part of travelers with 25% in 1960, this percentage slightly decreased to 20% in 1980 then sharply fell down to about 5% in 2000. Foot had the similar trend to bike with nearly 35% of travelers walked to and from work in 1960, this number dramatically declined to over 15% in 1980 and only lower than 10% in 2000. The appearance and popularization of automatic and convenient vehicles as car and bus had gradually replaced the position of traditional modes of transport as bike and foot in transportation market.
