Essay topics:

The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water
consumption in two different countries.

The chart compares the amount of water used across the world for agriculture, manufacture, and domestic in a period of a century, also the water consumption between Brazil and Democratic Republic of Congo in 2000.

It is clear that the water use increased dramatically worldwide between 1900 and 2000, especially in the water needs for agricultural activities. The table also showed a huge gap on water spent in Brazil beyond the use in Congo.

In 1900, the amount of water used for the industrial and domestic sector was nearly zero, in comparison with the high demand in agriculture which was about 500km3. By 2000, the consumption of water for industrial and housing had increased gradually while it had roared significantly to around 3000km3 for agriculture.

For more details in 2000, the table showed that Brazil used 26,500km3 for their irrigation system, and each Brazilian consumed 359m2 over the population of 176 million. The figure of Congo was totally different, while they used just only 100km2 for irrigating their land and each inhabitant used only 8m3. Congo’s population was about 5.2 million at that time.
