Overall, it is clear that the birth rates of both nations experienced a similar downwards trend over the a period of 80 years. However, there was a higher proportion was seen in the USA in most years.
From 1920 to 1935, the birth rate of the USA saw a fluctuation although it always remained above 10%. Fifteen years later, the figure decreased dramatically to below that point and then increased significantly to reach the a peak of 15% in 1950. Throughout the remaining years, the birth rate in the USA fell rapidly by over 8%, falling to approximately 7% by 2000.
Over the same period, the birth rate of China varied more significantly than the US did. It dropped to 5% from 1940 to 1945 before rising to 20%, which was the highest point of the whole diagram. By contrast, afterwards, there was a considerable decline in China’s data to about 2% in 2000, which was 5% less than that of the US.
