The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
The graph reveals USA’s energy consumption across 6 fuel types : Petrol and oil, Coal, Natural gas, Nuclear, Solar/wind and Hydropower from 1980 to 2008 and future predictions to 2030. In general, it is predicted that Petrol and oil will be USA’s largest energy consumption.
It is observed that in the first decade, the figure for Petrol and oil and Natural gas both fluctuated slightly and stood at approximately 35 and 20 quadrillion units respectively. This was not the same for the figure for Coal, as it increased slightly from 15 quadrillion units to 17.5 quadrillion units in 1990. In the next 5 years, the figure for Petrol and oil dropped slightly before it dramatically rose to 40 quadrillion units in 2008 and is predicted to continue to rise to 50 quadrillion units in 2050. The figure for the other two fossil fuels remained stable to 2008 and is predicted to rise to 25 quadrillion units for Natural gas and 30 quadrillion units for Coal.
In the 28-year period, the figure for the environmentally friendly fuels remained stable at around 5 quadrillion units and is predicted to stay the same in 2030.
