The graph below gives information from a report in 2010 about the use of energy in Australia since 1980 with projections until 2030.
The given chart illustrates the energy consumed in five types of fuel in Australia from 1980 to the projection of 2030. The unit is calculated by billion.
Overall, the nonrenewable energy sources, included Oil, Coal, Natural Gas and Nuclear possess the majority of consumption and have a more significant increasing tendencies in comparison with that of the only one renewable energy source named Solar.
Firstly, looking at the nonrenewable sources, the four types of these fuel both have the increasing trends over the period. The figure of Oil and Gas experience a fluctuation in the first thirty years, while that of Coal and Nuclear have a more consistent rising. In detail, the using of Oil, Gas and Coal are 35, 20 and 17 units, respectively in 1980. After hovering around 33 units, the consumption of Gas surges up to hit the peak at 45 units in 2010. Similarly, the number of using of Gas fluctuates around 20 units until 2000 before increasing to collide with Coal at 25 units in 2010. Moreover, after remaining steady at 5 units in the first 10 years, the figure for Nuclear rising up to double at 10 units in 2010. Due to the projection, except for Coal, the consumption of three remaining nonrenewable sources are expected to decrease in 2020 before climbing up to touch the new vertex at 50 units (Coal), 27 units (Gas) and 11 units (Nuclear) in 2030. The figure of Coal is predicted to gradually increase over the next two decades to hit the peak at 35 units in the last tracking year.
Secondly, regarding the renewable energy, the consumption of Solar slightly increases from 3 units in 1980 to 6 units in 2010, and being projected to be unchanged until 2020 before going up to touch the highest point at 8 units in 2030.
