The graph below shows the availability of various sweeteners in pounds in the USA from 1966 to 2012.
The given line graph illustrates the amounts of sweeteners that were available in pounds in the united states over a 46-year period of time.
Overall, it can be seen that the availability of sweeteners increased until around the year 2000 and then it receded. The amount of refined cane and beet sugars gradually decreased over the first twenty years, then plateaued for the rest of the period. Corn sweeteners had a continuous increase until 1986, followed by some fluctuations before falling for the remaining years. The availability of honey and edible syrups remained relatively low and stable over the years.
From 1966 to 1986, refined cane and beet sugars and core sweeteners followed a very different trend. The sugars started at around 100 pounds per person, while corn sweeteners started only at 18 pounds per person. By 1986, however, the two sweeteners met at 62 pounds. After that, they diverged again before meeting once again in 2007 at 63 pounds. In contrast to sugars and sweeteners, honey and syrups barely changed. They both started at approximately 15 pounds in 1966, so by the end of the period in 2011, they were almost the same.
