The graph gives information about how much Carbon Dioxide in some European countries such as United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal had been emitted over 40-year period.
Looking in more detail, it can be seen that, during a first decade from 1967 to 2007, there were increases of producing CO2 in numbers, with respect to tonnes, for Portugal, Italy and Sweden, reaching about 2, 6 and 10 tonnes, respectively. On the contrary, CO2 emissions stayed approximately fix at 11. After that, between 1977 and 1997, the amount of emission rose gradually to 5.4 and 6.7 for both Portugal and Italy, respectively. Standing in contrast, for the rest countries, the value of releasing pollutant materials steeply dipped in 1987, then was going down steadily in 1997. Also, there was a smooth decrease in numbers of CO2 for United Kingdom in that time. Interestingly, according to the graph, the figure had stable trend in Portugal as well as Italy. However, Sweden and United Kingdom continued falling emissions to 5 and 9 for each.
Overall, what stands out from the figures reveal that most areas where emitted Carbon Dioxide highest at first, related to United Kingdom and Sweden, but had descending trends at all which probably could be due to development of technology. Although the others remained stable at specific values over the last ten years.
