The graph below shows consumers’ average annual expenditure on cell phone, national and international fixed-line and services in America between 2001 and 2010.
The line graph demonstrates the average money spent on three separate means of communication yearly by citizens of America from 2001 to 2010.
From an overall perspective, it is obvious that while the expenditure on cell phone services experienced a sharp upward trend, the opposite was true for the amount of money paid for national fixed-line services. Also, the figure for international fixed-line services almost underwent no change throughout the period.
Starting at 700$ in 2001, the spending on national fixed-line services was the dominant item, compared to merely around 200$ of the other two categories. Over the next 5 years, this figure, however, dropped considerably by 200$. On the contrary, there was a significant growth to 500$ in that of cell phone services. At the same time, the expenses for international fixed-line services fluctuated a little bit before reaching a plateau at 300$.
In 2006, the figures for cell phone services and national fixed-line services were the same at 500$. From the year 2006 onwards, the expenditure on the former items surpassed that of the latter and became the most popular method of contact. To be more detailed, annually spending on cell phone services rose to about 750$ in the final year, whereas the figure for national fixed-line services witnessed a rapid fall by 100$. During the same period, there was stability in the figure for internet fixed-line services.
