The bar chart provides information about the UK economy which was contributed by three selected factors (agriculture, manufacturing, business and financial services) between 1900 and 2000. Units are measured in percentage.
Overall the contribution of the three sectors witnessed a dramatic change over a century. As opposed to the significant dip in the contribution of agriculture and manufacturing, that of business and financial services boomed remarkably.
In 1900. agriculture contributed the most of the three factors, accounting for nearly 50% of the UK economy. The percentage of contribution of manufacturing and business and financial services was around 45% and 5% respectively. Fifty years later, in 1950, the percentage of contribution of agriculture increased slightly, standing at just above 50%. Similarly, that of business and financial services rocketed from around 5% to approximately 12%. Yet, the contribution of manufacturing in 1950 had a marginal fall, at 40%.
In the second half of the century, the contribution of agriculture plummeted from 10% in 1975 to nearly 0% in 2000. Likewise, manufacturing observed a noticeable drop to around 40% and 20% in 1975 and 2000, respectively. On the contrary, the percentage of contribution of Business and Financial services soared to roughly 45% in 2000, making it the biggest contributor to the UK economy.
