In general, there was a downward trend in the amount of air pollutants. Additionally, pollutants were mainly discharged into the environment by industry.
In 1990, the total amount of air pollutants in the uk was 7 million tonnes. After decreasing dramatically to exactly 4 million pollutants in the year 1999, this figure continued to fall and ended the period at about 3.2 million.

However, the figure experienced a gradual fall to 2 million in 2005 with a considerable level over the period from 1993 to 1996. transport and households were on par, discharging around 1 million pollutants at the starting time. While the figure for transport remain relatively constant during the given period, there was a significant decline in that pf households with only 0,2 million in 2005.
