The graph illustrates the differ in three sources of air pollutants in the UK between 1990 and 2005. Units are measured in million tonnes

There was a steadily downward trend in the total amount of air pollutants. In particular, the most significant fall was from industrial pollutants.

In 1990, the total amount of air pollutants was 7 million tonnes, then there was a steeply decrease to about 4 million tonnes in 1999. After which, the total amount of air pollutants went down steadily to 3 million tonnes in 2005.

Industry accounted for the highest contributed in air pollutants in the period of 1990 to 2005 compare to the other 2 sources of pollutants. In 1990, industrial pollutants was about 5.5 million tonnes, whilst the amount of pollutant accounted by either transport or household was only around 1 million tonnes. Over the year, air pollutants from industry experienced a sharply fall to 3 million tonnes in 1999 and finally 2 million tonnes in 2005. Contrast to which, pollutants from transport remain stable around 1 million tonnes, and pollutants from households dropped dramatically to just under 0.5 million tonnes.
