The graph provided illustrates the levels of pollution caused by sulphur dioxide and smoke in London from 1600 to 2000.
Overall, the amount of sulphur dioxide was always higher than that of smoke within the given years. The sulphur dioxide level had shown fluctuation in increase, whereas smoke level had grown steadily until 1870, before both declining more or less to 0 around 1990.
Firstly, the sulphur dioxide level had increased rapidly from around 1580 to 1730 with becoming just over 750 micrograms. Following that, while fluctuating until about 1880, it had reached the peak point (approximately 850) around 1840. Then it had experienced a sharp fall, up till 2000 and also had shown some sudden falls and rises among the amount of smoke between the years of 1940 and 1990.
The smoke level had almost performed the same trend as sulphur dioxide but only kept rising till about 1870 where it reached the highest amount with more or less 400. Subsequently, it had gone down sharply and almost became 0 around 1980.
