The line graph illustrates the comparison of 4 different ways including road, water, rail and pipeline of good transport in UK during the period of 1974 to 2002. Overall, good transported by road, water and pipeline have an upward trend from 1974 to 2002 while goods transported by rail remained same about 40 million tonnes both in 1974 and in 2002.
It can be seen that the largest amount of goods was transported by road accounted for approximately 75 million tonnes in 1974 and slightly increased to 80 million tonnes in 1990 and reached the peak at almost 100 million tonnes in 2002. However, the number of goods quantities transported by water remained stable at about 40 from 1974 to 1978 which was the same point with rail transportation. In 1982, water transportation rose gradually to about 60 million tonnes in 1986 then reached over 60 million tonnes in 2002.This contrast to rail mode which saw a fluctuation over the following 15 years and reached at 41 in 2002.
However, the pipelines was used the least. It just transferred about 5 million tonnes in 1974, rose slightly and maintained the same level from 1995 to 2002 with 20 million tonnes.
