Overall, the highest proportion of businesses with all categories of employees made use of social media for developing business image or market products. Additionally, the businesses with over 1000 staff witnessed relatively higher rates for all the mentioned purposes of social media use as compared to the corporations with the rest number of employees.
In 2012, approximately 68% and 58% of companies having 1000+ employees used Internet to develop business image or market products and to obtain customer opinions respectively while the figures for these purposes in the remaining business categories ranged between around 20% and 55%, with the 10-49 and 250-249 workers companies being the lowest and the highest, respectively.
Turning to the collaboration with business partners and involving customers in development or innovations of goods or services, the rates were almost identical, ranging between 10% to around 30%.
There were more than 40% of businesses with 1000+ employees, more than 10% of all employees, between 10% and nearly 15% of 10-49 workers, slightly less than two fifth of those with 250-999 staff and just less than one fifth of those with 50-249 employees, respectively.
