Overall, the number of divorces, 2nd marriages and total marriages saw the same pattern of general increase while there was a significant decrease in that of 1st marriages. The data for total marriages remained the highest level in this period.
From 1975 to 1985, the number of total marriages and 1st marriages rose rapidly, reaching their highest point in the period of 25 years, 650 and more than 400 thousand people respectively. Those figure are then followed by a sight decrease period before they fell sharply in 2000, at 300 for 1st marriages and nearly 600 thoundsands people for total marriages data.
The number of people who got marriage for the second time and divorced began at a lower base, at 150 and lower than 100 thousand people respectively. The divorces data was more especial, though beginning at the smallest amount, it rose significantly, reaching a higher level than 2nd marriages, at about 250 thousand people in the year 2000.
