Overall, the rate of people in the 65 and over age group in Japan, Sweden and USA showed an upward trend. Futhermore, Japan was expected to see the most dramatic changes in its elderly population.
The period of 40 years starting from 1940, the population rate of USA and Sweden recorded a gradual increase to nearly 5%. However, in the following decade, there was unexpected fluctuations in the ratio population of two nations although it remained below 20%. It is noted that the figures of life expectancy in USA and Sweden increased significantly, ending with around 23% and 25% respectively in 2040.
Over the same period, elderly population in Japan has changed less than two above nations. It has dropped to about 3% over a 20 year period time from 1960 to 1980 before increasing gradually up to 10% in 2030. This figure then has climbed rapidly and took a lead, at 28% at the end of the survey.
