Transport of goods using pipelines were the lowest among the four, from approximately 3 million tonnes in 1974, to around 20 million tonnes in 2002.
By contrast, both waterways and rail started at the same value of 40 million tonnes in 1974.After 1974, the figures for the former rose, reaching around 56 million tonnes in 1998, before peaking to approximately 66 million tonnes in 2002. Similarly, the latter withnessed a reverse trend, declining to around 25 million tonnes in 1994, however; after this point the figures climbed rapidly, reaching to just over 40 million tonnes by the end of the period.
