The line graph illustrates the variation of prices for fresh fruits and vegetables, sugars and sweets, and carbonated drinks from 1978 to 2009.
Overall, prices increased for the three food production groups. The price of fresh fruits and vegetables was the only one whichs was higher than the Consume Price Index.
Iin 1979, prices for these groups were virtually the same, at about 70, as same as the Consumer-price Index. By 2987, the trends of these items had been similar, which rose slightly to over 100. In 1995, the price of fruits and vegetables was about 200, higher than the CPI. Whereas, the figures for sugars and sweets and carbonated drinks were lower, at about 140 and 130 respectively.
During the remainder of the period, fresh fruits and vegetables saw a considerable increase in price, to around 330 in the year 2009. There was a significant rise to under 200 in the price of sugars and sweets in 2009. The figure for carbonated drinks was the lowest, at over 150.
