The graphs below show the enrolments of overseas students and local students in Australian universities over a ten year period

The given line graphs illustrate the number of enrolments of overseas students and local students in Australian universities over a ten-year period. Overall, while the number of overseas students enrolling in universities saw an upward trend as both commencing number and total number went up, the number of local students knew a fluctuation.

A detailed look at the overseas students graph reveals that, between 2001 and 2010, the number of enrolments rose steadily from approximately 16000 to over 40000. Not only the number of commencing students had an increase but also the total number of students saw a jump from 20000 to over 80000, which meant almost fourfold.

On the other hand, after a continuously rise between 2001 and 2007, the number of total local students enrolling in universities remain constant at 600000 students. Apart from that, the number of commencing local students experienced a fluctuation over the period. Starting with about 18000 students in 2001, the number rose to almost 22000 and leveled off to 19000 in 2006 before seeing an increase to 21000 between 2006 and 2008. At the end of the period, this number, again, had a decrease and reached at a little over 20000 in 2010.
