Essay topics:

IELTS 3. Test 2, Writing Task 1: The chart below shows the amount spent on six consumer goods in four European countries.

The chart describes the amount of money spent on six consumer goods in four major Western European Countries. Overall, Britain dominated the chart in all consumer goods, while for the most part, France, Italy, and Germany followed the leader respectively. Furthermore, the highest amount of money was spent on photographic films by British people, which also was the only consumer good that surpassed the one-hundred-seventy-thousand-pound mark.

Photographic film accounted for the highest proportion of overall expenditure by Britain and France with around 171 thousand and 166 thousand pounds sterling respectively. Italy spent more money on toys with around 158 thousand pounds; toys were the second most popular consumer good for the British. For Germany, however, tennis racquets constituted the highest proportion of overall spending with 150 thousand pounds. It might come as a surprise since tennis racquet was the least popular consumer good for Britain and France.

In all categories, the British spent more money than all other countries. France closely followed Britain in categories such as photographic film, toys, and CDs. For perfumes, tennis racquets and personal stereos, Italians surpassed the French. Germans had the lowest amounts spent on consumer goods, except for tennis racquets.
