The line graph demonstrates the carbon dioxide in metric tonnes that a person emits in 4 European countries from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, Italy and Portugal experienced an upward trend in general during the forty-year period in carbon dioxide emissions while the United Kingdom and Sweden showed an opposite pattern. It is clear that the CO2 emissions in the United Kingdom were higher than those of other countries.
According to the graph, it is manifest that the UK possesses the most carbon dioxide emissions in the year 1967, which was accounted for approximately 11 metric tonnes per person. Subsequently, this number witnessed a marginal decrease and eventually hit the lowest point, less than 9 metric tonnes in 2007. Simultaneously, in Sweden, after a significant increase from 8 to around 11 metric tonnes CO2 in a decade between 1967 and 1977, there was a substantial decrease in the amount of CO2 emissions throughout the given period, made up just above 5 metric tonnes.
On the other hand, the production of carbon dioxide emissions per individual in Portugal and Italy began from around 1 and 4 metric tonnes, respectively. Particularly, both of these countries saw upward trends, with Italy’s emissions peaking at about 8 metric tonnes and Portugal’s at around 5 in 1997. Both of them still remained stable until 2007.
