The line graph below shows the number of annual visits to Australia by overseas residents. The table below gives information on the country of origin where the visitors came from.
The line graph and the table show the number of foreign citizens visiting Australia for the period between 1975 and 2005. The travellers from 6 different countries (South Korea, Japan, China, USA, Britain and Europe) are illustrated by the table. The units are measured in millions of people.
Overall, the number of travellers visiting Australia has increased within 30 years. In 2005 the number of foreign visitors has increased drastically compared to 1975 (Total 8.8 in 1975, 30.4 in 2005). An interesting fact is that among the six countries given, South Korea and Japan had the most number of foreign visitors to Australia in 2005 compared to 1975 (South Korea: 2.9 in 1975, 9.1 in 2005; Japan: 3.2 in 1975, 12 in 2005). The number of visitors from China visiting to Australia was relatively less in terms of changes that took place over the years compared to other countries over the past years.
Firstly, the line graph can be described as three parts of trend; 1975 to 1985, 1985 to 1995, and 1995 to 2005. During the first 10 years, the number of foreign travellers rose by 5. The greatest rise was from 1985 to 1995 when it rose by 10 for 10 years from 1985 to 1995. Between 1995 and 2005, the number of Australia visitors increased to approximately 30. Japan visitors demonstrate the most significant increase from 3.2 to 12 for the period of 1975 to 2005.
In 1975, the foreigners from other four countries showed a similar number of visits to Australia (0.3 for China, 0.4 for USA, 0.9 for Britain, 1.1 for Europe). The number of visitors from four countries increased (0.8 China, 1.1 USA, 2.9 Britain, and 4.5 Europe).
