The chart gives information about the percentage of tourists who traveled to Edinburgh and visited four attractions, including the aquarium, the castle, the zoo and a festival from 1980 to 2010.
Overall, Edinburgh's castle gained some popularity over the years, ending up being the most visited attraction in 2010. While the percentage of visitors to the aquarium decreased considerably, the zoo's rate rose steadily in the last 10 years.
In 1980, the festival was the most visited Scottish attraction, with 30% of the tourists coming to take part. This figure decreased marginally to reach 25% in 1995, and it steadily remained just above this rate from 2000. Conversely, the percentage of people visiting the castle was approximately 25% at the beginning of the time period, but it climbed considerably to reach 45% 15 years later. The proportion dropped gradually to finally reach just above 30% in 2010.
The zoo's and aquarium's percentages changed similarly over the period, starting at 10% and 20% respectively in 1980. Then, the tourists' rate increased by 5 and 15 percentage points, but it decreased again to reach 10% and 20% respectively in 2000. Things changed in the last decade when the zoo's visitors' figure jumped to 20 %, while aquarium's one fell below 10%.
