The line graph shows visits to and from the UK from 1979 to 1999 and the bar graph shows the most popular countries visited by UK residents in 1999.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph indicates how much travelling happened to and from the UK, over a period of 20 years, with a further classification by the destinations most preferred by UK residents, in 1999. As illustrated by the line chart, there was a considerable increase in the number of visits paid from and to the UK, between 1979 and 1999.

Specifically, the analysis of data shows that the number of visits to the UK by overseas residents were nearly as many as those abroad by UK residents in 1979 ( reaching from about 10 millions to approximately 11 millions, respectively). However, in 1986 there was a significant difference between the visits from and to the UK. Although both numbers increased moderately, visits from UK to abroad were importantly higher in 1986, than those to the UK the same period ( 20 millions of visits from UK residents but approximately 11 millions from overseas residents). From then, both number of visits rose steeply to reach a peak of around 51 millions and approximately 27 millions respectively, in 1999.

As can be seen from the bar chart, France was the country mostly chosen by UK residents whereas Turkey was the country least visited by the British.
