In many countries, people like to eat a wider variety of food than can be grown in their local area. As a result, much of food eat today has to come from other regions. Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?
The need for imported food is mainly caused from the people preferences to eat diverse meals apart from their eating habits so that it makes consumers can enjoy tasty one which does not exist in their host country, and it likely increases creativity for making a profit. However, from this activity, severe problems could emerge such as the high demanding of fossil fuels and harming local restaurants.
Admittedly, weather conditions cannot prevent people to taste yields from other countries, and by tasting many local cuisines it will make such creative businesses to gain high output. When a lot of fruits are already available in the store, overseas fruit can be eaten by consumers with no moving from their countries. The success of this leads to the presence of International chain restaurant so that after being tasted local people can recognize the ingredients and special techniques for making the food which sometimes can be an inspiration for business makers. For example, People in tropics can taste sweet mangos and grapes from European countries as these fruits have been already transported and even reached high demanding from societies. In a similar way, Pizza outlets have been expanded in Indonesia causing one of the food innovators creating a new pizza by using local seasoning called ‘pecel and rujak’. After being established, the restaurant attracts a lot of customers and chains in the cities of Indonesia. However, much traveling time from where it is grown reduces the nutritional value from its fruits and the more and more local recipes will lose popularity due to the new eating habits of citizens.
On the other hand, import processes must a lot of fuel for transportation as it needs thousands of kilometers for reaching their marketplaces. If people allocate more fuel in such sector, it means that they have to cut the use of electricity and traveling for important purposes which are more crucial to fulfilling. To illustrate this, spending billions of tones fuel leads to rotating blackouts for several regions, and it is estimated that each person only has 3 times of opportunities to visit other regions. What is the impact of this? Due to the high reliance on electricity, many workplaces do not run their production reducing of GDP and products. Also, several jobs and emergency situations are demanding to transport very often every day, if they should be limited, it such breaks people right. Therefore, the high use of fuel might lead the sources depleting quickly overestimation.
In conclusion, although the presence of different meals gives obvious benefits for citizens, the result of this will be severely the existed problems. Also, to allow this habit to happens, it would be increase consumerism for citizens.
