The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and the plans for its development.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagrams demonstrate the degree to which Islip town centre has changed from now to the near future.
Overall, in the future, the construction of the centre will be expanded significantly for more useful infrastructures, such as a bus station, a car park, and a pedestrian road. Additionally, the centre will be surrounded by a dual carriageway, instead of an open region as in the present.
Currently, there are two shops divided by a main road, and a region for housing in front of these shops; however, in the future, it is proposed that the shop lying at the top of the map will be replaced by some facilities, including a bus station, a shopping centre, a car park, and an area for housing. On the right to the bottom of the diagram, there is a park located next to the housing on the main road, but it is going to narrow down in size to establish another housing in the area. Moreover, the main road that crosses over the two shops will be utilized for pedestrians only in the proposed plan.
In addition, at the bottom to the left of the region, the school will be still maintained, but it is going to be expanded to admit more students, and the housing which is in close proximity to the school will be relocated to the right side, opposite the new housing opened next to the park. Finally, it is not hard to define that the countryside will be diminished in size, making way for the extension of the centre and the emergence of the dual carriageway.
