More and more people are suffering from health problems caused by a modern lifestyle which cannot be treated with modern medicines. Some people think that a return to traditional medicine should be encouraged.
To what extent do you agree?
More individuals are suffering from health problems which cannot be cured by modern medicines due to a modern lifestyle. Therefore, some people believe that traditional medicine should be returned to use. I disagree with this opinion and this essay will explain why in detail.
Traditional medicine is made out of natural resources such as trees or flowers, but in today’s time, these ingredients cannot be prevented from contamination due to the increasing problems related to the climate and water sources. Thus, this will affect the overall effectiveness of traditional medicine, making it ineffective in curing diseases. This is because of the changes in the effectiveness of medicine which are caused by factors resulting from current problems related to nature, including polluted water or contaminated soil for plants. Mint, for example, is a tree famous for curing fever; if planted in polluted soil, its nutrition could literally change from being beneficial to wrecking havoc on people’s health.
The increase in people suffering from incurable health problems is not the result of modern medicine ineffectiveness, but is due to the current unhealthy lifestyle. Therefore, there is no need to encourage the use of traditional medicine. If people want to prevent themselves from incurable chronic diseases, they need to change their lifestyles first. If they do not attempt to do so, traditional or modern medicine could not save their lives from these diseases. Living healthier can improve people’s mentality and health significantly without too much reliance on natural or artificial medicines. For instance, people who smoke a lot will have less possibility of survival as they face a high risk of lung cancer.
In conclusion, I believe that the encouragement to return to traditional medicine is unnecessary since its cleanness cannot be preserved due to the increasing pollution in nature nowadays. Furthermore, traditional or modern medicine will be rendered useless in curing untreatable chronic diseases if people have no intention of changing to a better lifestyle.
