The pie chart below shows the main reasons why students chose to study at a particular UK university in 1987 and 2007. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make a comparison where relevant.

The pie chart demonstrates the reasons why students chose a particular UK university to study between 1987 and 2007.

Overall, suitable degree courses were the most essential reason for studying in the UK throughout the period. However, the least reason for attending UK universities was a change from closeness to the parental home to an interest in sports and social activities.

As can be seen on the bar chart, the most reason why students preferred UK universities was suitable degree courses with 35% out of 100% in the survey in 1987. This value continued to increase slightly to 37% in 2007. Over the next 20 years, closing to the parental home became the second highest proportion with 22%, despite being the shortest proportion at the beginning of this period. There was a gradual rise of 3% in people choosing UK colleges because of the quality of teaching.

A downward trend was illustrated by 2 remaining reasons. The good sports and social activities was the third biggest number in 1987, but 20 years later it declined sharply to 6%. The ratio of pupils joining UK universities due to the quality of resources was 21% in 1987 and then dropped to 17% in 2007.
