The following charts illustrate information about the reasons that students decided to attend a university in 1987 and 2007.
Overall, the majority of students considered a suitable degree course to be the main factor. In addition, there was a tendency for students to want to be close to their families after 20 years.
According to the charts, 35% of the students studied at university because of suitable degree courses in 1987. This percentage is higher than the percentage of those who enrolled to university because of quality resources and sports and social activities by 16% and 14% respectively. Quality of teaching and being close to parents accounted for 15% and 10% of the reasons in 1987.
However, it can be observed that two decades later, the proportion of students who wanted to be close to their families increased by almost a quarter. In contrast, those who searched for sports and social activities dropped to 6%. Meanwhile, in comparison to 18% of students choosing the university's quality of instruction, three times as many chose quality of resources in 2007.
