The pie chart reveals the proportion of women from the United States in 2008, while the bar chart shows the rate of poverty based on sex and gender in the same country and year.
Overall, single women who had no children made up the highest proportion of poverty. While the proportion of poverty by men was lower than women, the group of under 5 ages revealed the highest.
In women poverty groups, single women who had no children accounted for 54% of women in poverty, being the highest compared to others, while the figure for those who had children showed almost a half. However, both of married women with and without dependent children had the minority, at 12% and 8% respectively.
Apart from the previous comparisons, the proportion of poverty by women of age under 5 accounted for more than 15%, slightly higher than men. While the figure for women 18-24 years old showed the same with the former, the men figure had the lower rate by around 5%. However, women figure illustrated poorer than men in the rest figures.
