Trade data is provided as a table and charts, showing fish imports to the United States from 1988 to 2000. Overall, import figures increased steadily by about 2 billion dollars in 1992 and 2000. However, fish import origins underwent a significant change.

Trade value in 1988 was 6.57 billion dollars, with Canada as the main import source with 60% whereas China accounted for 13% and others for 27% of imports.

In 1992 fish was imported for $8.52 billion dollars, but the majority of imports was now from countries categorised as ‘Others’, accountable for 46%, while Canada slumped to 34% and China increased by 7 per cent points to a total of 20%.

By the year 2000, $10.72 billion dollar worth of fish was imported, displaying a continuation of the previous trend in the figures of import countries: import from Canada decreased further by 6 per cent points to 28% whereas China’s imports rose again by an impressive 10% to a total of 30%. Simultaneously, imports from other countries showed a slight decrease and is at a total of 42%.
