The given pie charts demonstrate three main sources of fish imported to America from 1988 to 2000. Meanwhile, the table describes the data about the total import index of fish to the US in 3 examined years.
Overall, there was a dramatic increase in the revenue of fish imported to the US over a 12-year period. It can also be seen that China exported the lowest proportion of fish to America between 1988 and 2000.
According to the data shown on the table, the import of fish to the US had a tendency to grow during the period of 12 years. To be more specific, in 1988, the total value of imported fish was only 6.57 billion dollars. After 4 years, the figure experienced a slight rise at the threshold of 8.52 billion dollars. At the end of the period, Americans consumed the amount of fish imported, which was equivalent to 10.72 billion dollars in terms of value.
Furthermore, the UK mainly imported fish from 3 different sources, namely China, Canada and the others. During the examined period, the percentage of fish imported from Canada tended to decline significantly, from 60% in 1988 to 34% in 1992 and eventually reached the lowest figure at 28% in 2000. In contrast, the amount of Chinese fish breaking into American market sharply rose in 3 years, at 13%, 20% and 30% respectively. Similarly, the remaining countries also exported a soaring amount of fish to meet the demand of the American people. At the beginning, the proportion of fish imported was only 27% of the total, but at the end of the period, this figure was nearly twice as much as the data in 1988, reaching a peak of 42% of the total.
