The chart illustrates the amount of electricity was produced by five different categories of fuel sources in two countries namely Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.
Overall, sources of fuel in France was obvious more diversity than it was in Australia. Units of electricity by coal accounts for the largest proportions in both countries before the breakthrough in Nuclear Power and made it became the main fuel in France.
In Australia, coal contributed 50 out of 100 units of electricity in 1980. That number increased to 130 in total 170 units was produced 20 years later. In term of Hydro Power, though the amount of electric power was generated nearly double in 2000, the percentage of hydroelectricity still remained around 20%. Whereas, the figure for Oil and Natural Gas energy went down drastically from 30 units in 1980 to only 4 units in total in 2000.
On the other hand, France showed the major change in energy structure. In 1980, coal, oil and natural gas account for the majority of electricity production was generated with more than 70% while nuclear power contributed very minuscule. However, after 20 years of development, nuclear electricity become the crucial power in France with 126 units of production, even more than double the total units of all remaining fuel sources could produce.
