The pie charts below show units of electricity production by fuel source Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.
The provided pie charts compare electricity production in Australia and France in two periods of time in 1980 and 2000.
In 1980, Australia produced slightly more units of electricity at 100 than France did at 90 units. Coal consisted of half of all sources used to generate those 100 units; natural gas and hydro power contributed equally to produce 40 units, and oil constituted of producing remaining 10 units in Australia. Similarly, France also relied on natural gas and coal (each produced 25 units) to generate electricity. The latter also used nuclear power to produce 15 units of electricity, which were 5 units less than oil contributed to in the same year.
20 years later, there was a significant difference in the figures. France produced more electricity at 180 units compared to 170 units in Australia. Also, great majority of those units were generated by nuclear power (126 units) in France. In contrast, Australia still relied on coal (130 units) to produce most of its energy. Similarly, both countries significantly decreased the share of natural gas in energy production to 2 units.
The infographics indicate that France and Australia produced nearly the same amount of energy in the given years; however, the charts illustrate the two countries relied on different sources.
