The given pie charts compare the proportion of electricity produced in two European countries, Germany and France, sorted by the different sources used (conventional thermal, nuclear and natural) in 2009.
Overall, as can be seen, Germany had generated noticeably most of its energy from conventional thermal sources whilst France heavily relied on nuclear as their main source of power production.
In 2009, it is visible that Germany produced relatively more energy (560 billion kWh) as opposed to France (510 billion kWh). Conventional thermal sources were most commonly used in Germany, producing almost 60% in total, whereas France used nuclear sources mostly and they had become its primary source of power, reaching 76%. On top of that, Germany did not use nuclear sources as much as France did and the percentage was observed to be only 23% while conventional thermal 10.3% in France.
As for natural sources, surprisingly, France deeply depended on hydroelectric sources (80.5%) while Germany preferred to evenly distribute their production among two sources which were biomass (39.3%) and wind (36.9%). Solar, however, contributed the least to both countries and was recorded with 6.1% for Germany and insignificantly, 0.9% for France.
