Rate of unemployment in the UK

Overall, it is noticeable from the chart that there was an upward trend in the rate of unemployment with lows during the 2005s and highs during the 2010s.
Increasing from about 5% in 2005, the proportion of unemployment in the UK slightly rose to 6% in the next year. After that, there was a marginal dip in the rate of unemployment in 2007, while the latter half of the given 6-year period experienced a sharp increase in the figure.
The percentage of people who were unemployed saw a rapid climb in 2008, to somewhere in the vicinity of 8% before dropping suddenly to less than 7% in 2009. This was followed by a period of exponential growth, with the rate of people out of work in the country reaching a peak of 12% in 2010.
